Tower of London in the rain: what changes
About half the visit is indoors: the Crown Jewels, the White Tower and the exhibitions in the towers.
Outdoors: the courtyards, the wall walks and the Yeoman Warder tours, which take place outside.
Surfaces: the ground is uneven in many places and gets slippery in the rain.
Cancellation: the Tiqets ticket can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before, handy if the forecast gets worse.
Queues and crowds
With over 2.8 million visitors in 2025 it was the UK’s most visited paid attraction: expect a queue for the Crown Jewels.
Go early: arrive at opening time and head straight to the Crown Jewels before the groups arrive.
Yeoman Warder tours finish early (the last one at 2:30 pm), so don’t leave it to the afternoon if you want one.
An hour-by-hour crowd estimate is coming later, always marked as an estimate and with its source.
What to see inside Tower of London
A Yeoman Warder, one of the guards who tell the Tower’s story

The Crown Jewels: crowns, sceptres and coronation regalia, still in use today.
The White Tower: the Norman keep at the heart of the fortress, with arms and armour from the royal collection.
The wall walks: with views over the Thames and Tower Bridge.
The Bloody Tower and Torture at the Tower: the stories of the Tower’s prisoners.
The Yeoman Warders and the ravens: the uniformed guards tell the Tower’s story, and the ravens live in its grounds.
More exhibitions: the Royal Fusiliers Museum and the Royal Mint exhibition.

1988: the Tower of London becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Today: it houses the Crown Jewels and is cared for by Historic Royal Palaces.
Useful tips for your visit
Crown Jewels first: that’s where the longest queue builds, so go straight there.
No suitcases: they’re not allowed and there’s nowhere to leave them.
Comfortable shoes: uneven ground, narrow stairs in the towers and slippery surfaces in the rain.
With kids: under-5s go free; the ravens and the armour are big hits.
Chapel: the Chapel Royal of St Peter ad Vincula is a working chapel and may close without notice.
Audio guide: from £4, a good extra if you’d rather explore at your own pace.
